Lets talk about Giving

The Giving TreeI am extremely passionate about this topic and it is something that most of us in America don’t “get” it. The reason why I know we don’t “get” it is because we have put ourselves in a position where we CAN’T give.

According to statistics over 70% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. If they miss ONE paycheck they will not be able to make ends meet.

Most people have put themselves in a position where they are UNABLE to give. I have seen too many examples of people sitting in church with their brand new truck in the parking lot and a $350 monthly payment but cannot give $200 to the single mother that is in need sitting next to them.

Once you put yourself in that position you simply CAN’T give and it breaks my heart. It is my passion to see people in a position that they can live free from worry about their money and free to give more generously than they ever thought they could.

Along with giving, I have had people ask me is it a good idea to give money away from a credit card and then trust God to provide for that to be paid back.

I usually clarify my response with this; God could call you to do ANYTHING whether it be ridiculous sounding or not. God has used a donkey to speak his words, a burning bush to communicate, and has even given battle instructions of marching around a wall for 7 days and then at the end the wall would fall down. God sometimes uses that so His Glory will be shown and nobody could be confused that it was Him.

This is not one of those things that God MIGHT tell you to do, and I can prove it. I can show you in scripture where God says to avoid debt and when we give to give on the increase. If we are going to use the God card we have to make sure we are lining it up with scripture because He won’t give us instructions that contradicts with His written word.

I am going to finish up with this. When giving, it is healthy to give anonymously. You do not need a building named after you every time you give. In fact, it is very healthy and biblical to give without others knowing.

Giving with a cheerful and generous heart is a major blessing for the people who receive and to those who gave.
